I would like to describe an encunter 1 experienced with an employee of the Grand River Conservation Authority To whom it may concern‘:glimpse previous to paying Looking for suitable swimming facilities, my companion and I visited the Elora Gorge Quarry on Saâ€" turday. July 14. Being unâ€" familiar with premises. we asked the onâ€"duty beach paâ€" trol if we might catch a It‘s also endorsed by â€" and will receive referrals from â€" London Psychiatric Hospital, Kâ€"W Hospital and Homewood Sanitorium in Guelph. The award to establish the group home brings the Ministry of Health‘s total support to comâ€" munityâ€"based mental health programs to around $4.9 million. For any patient with emotional problems, comâ€" ing from the confines of a psychiatric hospital to the outside world must be a trying experience. After having been completely dependent on the staff of the hospital â€" often for years â€" the paâ€" tients must have an opportunity to become graâ€" dually oriented to our society, rather than having to come to grips with life suddenly. The Waterioo Region group horfle is sponsored by the regional branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, and is endorsed by the Waâ€" terloo Region District Health Council. That‘s a lot of money, but if it‘s being used to start and support such services as the grop home in Waterloo, it is money well spentj ‘The group home is the first of its kind in Waâ€" terloo, a place where discharged patients can spend time adapting to life outside the psychiatric hospital, to reduce the likelihood of being readmitâ€" ted," Timbrell said. Health Miniser Dennis Timbrell said the proâ€" gram will help former patients become indepenâ€" dent, gain emotional support and learn how to live on their own. Ontario‘s Ministry of Health recently announced a $15,820 grant to help establish a Waterloo Reâ€" gion Group Home. And despite the controversy that all too often surrounds the location of such new facilities, we applaud the government and the Region of Waterloo for pressing to build the home. The purpose of the group home, according to Ministry of Health, is to provide "transitional‘" housing for eight patients to be referred from psyâ€" chiatric hospitals and community agencies in the area. The most important thing about a facility such as the proposed home, is the fact that it won‘t be so much for treatment as therapy. Waterioo Chronicle office is located onZ2ndfloor of the O.W.
