Behind All-Star centre fielder Paul Boileau. the CHYM'rs have dipped into local Industrial Lea- gues to fill in their roster with four competent pa- trollers of the outfield pastures. Some of these have been converted from more familiar infield positions, but the adjustment has been smooth and speaks highly of the players' natural abilities. Pitching has' always been the front line of the defen- ce, but a closely knit infield combined with a fleet of foot outfield are also necessities. The Kitchener Fastball League has graduated all four from teams in the prestigious Major Division and the alumni includes Larry Brooks from aw. Sports, Gary MacGregor from Big Bill's, Doug Weiler from Schendel's Stationary and Bob Riley from Sportco. The emphasis in the Intercity Fastball League has always been on defence, and it's no secret to l.F.L. fans that traditionally that has been the long suit of the Waterloo CHYM'rs. Over the years Bob has competed in many sports, with a dozen seasons in Twin City Industrial Hockey and as many in local fastball circles. As well. most Fridays in the autumn found Bob suiting up as an official in high school football. This varied back- ground speaks well of Bob's versatility. and the talent combined with a desire to prove he belonged in the company of fellow CHYM'rs. carried Bob to a spot on the Senior Club's roster. Prior to the move to IFT, ranks, Bob competed for a single season with Sportco and two years with aw. Sports in the Major Division. following a stint with the Coronet Hotel in the "8" Division which included a championship season in 1971. . Omur Onluzler and Linda Wenchel were on the War terioo squad There's no doubt that in the defense oriented senior loop. Bob's strong point is his efficient patrolling of the outfield, and despite carrying 190 pounds. Bob dis- plays deceiving speed in tracing deep fly balls and turning them into routine outs. Like many of his coun- terparts. Bob's batting average has dipped from ear- lier years. however with the various platooning that the IFL rules allow.
