Waterioo Chronicte, Wednesdey, May 16, Column unfair to sports writer While some members of city council have expressed disâ€" pleasure with the personal attacks made by some sign comâ€" pany owners, the question of how the majority of Waterloo residents feel about mobile flashing signs on city streets and plaza parking lots remains unanswered. Doés the majority of Waterlqo businessmen want to use the signs in front of their business? Does the overall population of the city feel strongly one way or the other on having these signs borderâ€" ing city streets? There is a good chance that this is one of those occasions and most members of Waterloo council have been listening for at least three months for an indication of public feeling on a contentious local issue. City planners in attempting to design and direct progress in Waterloo along lines best serving the greatest number of its residents have prepared two reports this year recomâ€" mending the banning of mobile signs within the city limits. Mobile sign company owners from across southern Ontario have on two occasions launched severe, personal, verbal atâ€" tacks on the planners for their stand. Any letters written to the Chronicle will be printed on this page as quickly as possible. If you prefer to let your council know how you feel on the issue, drop them a line or phone 886â€"1550. . ‘ It probably doesn‘t occur to most people that elected ofâ€" ficials like to hear from the public on occasions other than elections. However the decision is made, it will undoubtedly be done in an attempt to satisfy the best interests of the taxpapers of Waterloo. Making the decision is their job. Identifying those best inâ€" terests is yours. Mike suggested we take the matter to the Supreme Court of Canada unless Campbell agrees to the following terms of compensation : Your sports editor, Rick Campbell, must be congratulated for his tremendous, inparalleled coverage of the Waterloo sports scene. His stories and columns are lively, interesting and acâ€" curate â€" most of the time. that is. As much as I hate to say this about a good friend, Rick told some terrible lies in a recent column about a certain Kâ€" W Record sports writer. At the start of his column, Rick couldn‘t say enough good things about the Record scribe, but then he went berserk and launched into an awful tirade that included such insults as ‘‘arrogant, pompous, unkempt. frizzyâ€"haired and bungleâ€" brained." Never in my life have I been subjected to such ridicule and humiliation. I had to stay inside the house all week to avoid being embarrassed in public. Particularly distressing was the fact that Campbell misâ€" took my curly hair for the frizzies I was so upset by Campbell‘s remarks that I consulted my lawyer. the ebullient golf sensation Mike Whitney, to see what could be done about the villainous comments.
