Including Saturdays, and therein lies the rub. s Expos, you see, play nearly all their home games on Saâ€" turday afternoons at Bechtel Park, less than a line drive away from the Bridgeport Coâ€"op. _ o So for a major part of the 1971 season, Barrett rotated with Terry Boegel and Don Beaupre in the infield, and ocâ€" casionally patrolled the pastures as well. _ _ ‘If I‘m not mistaken Terry had to work last year too," said Barrett as he lined up for batting practice last Thursâ€" day. "So it was just a case of whoever was there played Despite missing almost half the schedule, Barrett batted around .400 on the explosive Expos as they won both the Inâ€" terâ€"County and OBA titles. > > | _ *‘Playing with guys who hit the ball so well, it kind of rubs off on you. But missing so many games and practices really hurt my defence. My timing was off." _ . â€" o Because of the comraderie on the Expo squad, and the fact that they all get to play a lot, Barrett says there is no overt competition among the three infield B‘s, Barrett, Boeâ€" gel and Beaupre. The slight shortstop said he hopes the Expos would pull a repeat of last season and personally he wants to hit as well and shore up his glove play. C O _ *‘*We‘ can all play other positions, even the outfield. It‘s important in junior ball to be versatile," said Barrett. _ He kept his reflexes in good shape last winter by guarding the pipes for the Junior B Siskins, and plans to return to the club this fall despite the heavy academic demands of school. *‘*Hockey practice doesn‘t take as much time as everyone thinks," he said. ‘‘"And most of the time I spend at hockey I wouldn‘t be studying anyway, so what‘s the difference? There is definitely time for both." The game was highlighted Miller standout in field hockey by two goals by Waterloo‘s Marie Miller in the first half. Miller had an excellent half, contributing greatly to her team‘s domination of the play. _ In the second half, Patsy Chalmers scored early for Waterloo. Later, Dorothy Hibbard scored on a beauâ€" tifully played long drive. The final goal was scored by Bev Bayus. Just like Waterloo Expos have to accept that Barrett‘s job is part of baseball. Given his talent and contributions to the team, it shouldn‘t be too difficult a task. Both Barrett and Siskin goalie Ed Takamatsu came under heavy fire when the Waterloo club endured a dreadful slump in midâ€"season. They were often accused of allowing cheap gaals in key situations. But Barrett was rarely affected by the pressure to perform. Play on Sunday resumed DAVE BARRETT Waterloo‘s next game is Thursday in Bramalea. The team is still looking for players. Anyone interested should call Joey Farrell at 634â€"8815 (day) or 884â€"3607 (eve.} . The overall tournament champions were the Ottawa Overdrives who defeate the Toronto Nomads 3~! This marks the first tim that Ottawa has won their own tournament. This year there were fifteen teams taking part in the annual event. with Waterloo being in third place in their pool. In their fourth and final game, the team was defeated 3â€"1 by the Toronto Ladies team. Joey Farrell got the lone Waterloo goal. Goaltenders Kathy Radigan and Ruth Johnston both playing in net for the first time, did very well in the tournament.
