The absence of that burâ€" den was obvious in the play of the two teams in the openâ€" ing game Saturday, as every player on both teams had ample opportunity to dribâ€" ble, pass, and score. Since YBA is a joint venâ€" ture of both the Kitchener and Waterloo Y‘s, the two facilities have a combined schedule. There are two teams operating out of Kitchener, with rosters being exclusively boys. In Waterloo there are three teams, and each is comprised of both girls and boys. But don‘t for a minute think that the presence of the fairer sex weakens Waâ€" terloo squads. ‘‘*Did you see that girl go for the rebound?"‘ exâ€" claimed Waterloo Y youth director Debbie Glasz as Pam Fennell outjumped a Kitchener defender for the ball. ‘"*They‘re into this game just as much as the boys." During the game referee Manus Collicott explained with great patience and deâ€" tail every foul that had been committed so that all players could understand their mistakes. Since there was only one referee, much of the inboudâ€" ing and restarts after whisâ€" tles commenced without the official handling the ball, which helped speed play and make for more continuous action. One of the major deâ€" viations from high school and university basketball is that there is no pressing alâ€" lowed, and the defense must allow the opposition to cross centre court before actively defending. ‘"I guess we‘re skins," he smirked. ‘‘*One team will have to go as skins,""‘ said referée Colliâ€" cott.
