ATTENTION BOWLER : New books at the library Paul Clemens Oakville in the Halton Girls Soccer League. After a slow start at the beginning of the season, the Pintos had been steadily gaining momenâ€" tum, and in their last six games recorded one tie and five wins. Margo Scharer has been strong on the forward line as has been Michelle Beaupre. The mid field has ‘also shown that they can "do the job‘ and Val Simpson has certainly been on the go. the last game Paul was hitting .356 (tops in the leaâ€" gue),and hoping to repeat as the circuit‘s batting champ. + _ The 22â€"yearâ€"old Preston native describes himself as a line drive hitter, relying on his ability to hit the ball through the holes in the infield. He‘s never struck out much but he sees the considerable drop in his average as being caused by the better allâ€"round defensive play in the league this year. Clemens‘ minor softbatl and fastball caréer in Camâ€" bridge was highlighted by a Pee Wee Ontario Chamâ€" pionship. In 1976 he played for Hespeler Sirgplicity of the Inter City League, their final season before they folded. Several players from the cantending Simplicitâ€" y team ended up playing in the Ontario Fastball Leaâ€" gue but it was the Chym‘rs present manager Glenn Moeser who convinved Clemens to play for the then lowly Waterloo team. The converted second baseman brought the winning tradition to town last season and led the Chym‘rs to the pennant. ~ The team isn‘t quite as dominant this year, mainly due to the vast improvement of the Guelph Ingrams. The Chym‘rs don‘t seem to have the offensive punch they had last season.Because they are the reigning champions, opposing. teams tend to play better against them. What will be the key to beating the first place Ingrams in the playoffs? The way Paul sees it, the best solution will be to keep hitting and force the young, inexperienced Ingram ipfielders to make errors. One reason Waterioo Chym‘ts fare in second place in the Inter City Fasthall League is the sound play of mdrihomPauIClem.Mm:‘hocap- tured the league ba C a 426 average Mm',wmm top hitters In Port Elgin _ you can buy The Record on the day of publication at: TemsSiscountcet One of the nice things about holidaying in the Lake Huron area Also available from these dealers in: Sauble Beach Southampton South Sable Trading Post Balil‘s Grocery Carson‘s Camp Plante‘s Smoke Shop Kirkland‘s Supermarket Becker‘s Milk Store Tuâ€"Shop Grocery Medicine Chest Sauble Falls General Store Low‘s Foodliner Thomas House of Crafts Woodland Park K.O.A.
