Manor holds dinner The â€" Parkwood _ Manor Auxilliary held their annual Christmas dinner last Wednesday. Special guest at the dinner was Mrs. D. Stuart of Kitchener. Mrs. Stuart is the Chairman of the board for. Parkwood Manor. The dinner was served by the Auxilliary members, and Mrs. M. Euler enterâ€" tained with piano selections. Ontario Health Minister Dennis Timbrell announcâ€" ed the creation of the council this week. A steering comâ€" mittee headed by former Kitchener mayor _ Edith Macintosh offered recomâ€" mendations to the health ministry which resulted in the establishment of the council. The council will also esâ€" tablish priorities and plan an interrelated health care program while coâ€"ordinating all health care activities and ensure a balanced, effecâ€" tive and economical serâ€" vice. The council will also asâ€" sess how well the programs meet the total health needs of the region. The new â€" council will Mr. Kaufman, president of Kaufman footwear, has been a member of the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Hosâ€" pital _ Commission _ since 1955 and was viceâ€"chairman from 1961 to 1975. A memâ€" ber of the Waterioo County Health Council since 1972, be was elected chairman of that body in 1974. Waterloo members of the committee include city alâ€" derman Mary Jane Mewhinâ€" ney, Rev. Keneth Beal, Hartman Krug, Bradford Keeler. Jeff Sproatl, Eleanor Scully, Rev. Henâ€" ry Opperman and Douglas McCready. The council‘s inaugural meeting is expected to be sometime in January. Instead of just hospital officials, the new council is integrated with health care agencies, the public and professionals. While the new council‘s role is not tremendously different than the former body, Mr. Kaufman said the makeâ€"up of the council is quite different. The council grew out of the former Waterloo County Health Council. That council _ originally _ was a hospital planning board and was essentially concernâ€" ed with hospital issues. The new council has a much broader spectrum of concern than just hospitals, Mr. Kaufman explained in an interview. The council will have available the technical asâ€" sistance, consultants and expertise of the ministry of health to ‘assist in its deâ€" cisionâ€"making process. act in an advisory capacity to the ministry on the planâ€" ning of integrated health services for the region. The allocation of resources to the area will be based on obâ€" jectives â€" and _ priorities determined by the 18â€"memâ€" ber council and its recomâ€" mendations to the ministry.
