King of the Golden River â€" holiday theatre for children King of the Golden River will be presented at UW in the Humanities Theatre Dec. 28, 29 and 30 at 1 :30 and 3 :30 p.m. It is a story of three brothers and their struggles against violent storms, magic spells, spirits and devils. Will Sutton and Renee Bertrand will star as the King and Queen. A showfull of fun and excitement for children is scheduled for the UW Humanities Theatre during the Christmas holidays. Produced by Niagara College Theatre of Welland, ‘"King of the Golden River‘"‘, the story by John Ruskin, has been adapted into a fastâ€"paced hourâ€"long adventure fantasy by D‘Arcy McHayle, and comes with colourful sets and costumes and "theatre magic‘‘ to thrill the kids. There will be two shows daily at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. on December 28, 29 and 30. Mr McHayle, whose background includes much work in children‘s theatre with Studio Lab Theatre in Toronto, is an instructor at the Niagara College Theatre Centre and has been adapting shows of this kind for the centre for the past two years. Their huge successes in Welland, performing for over 5,000 children in the area, prompted the UW Arts Centre to bring this latest show to Waterloo for the holidays. A 10â€"kilometre road race was proposed last week for Sunday, June 11, the last day of the 11th annual Waâ€" terloo Days celebration. A footloose and fancy free finale to next summer‘s Waterioo _ Days _ celebraâ€" tions could see as many as 2,000 runners invade city streets. * In the past month, he has been working with city officials and Brad Blain, president of the Waterloo County Amateur Athletic Association, to see the idea materialize. The race, which could become the largest scale of its kind ever held in Canâ€" ada, is the brain child of Jan â€" Ciuciura, _ coâ€"owner of Athlete‘s Foot store on King Street. Both _ Sunday _ joggers and serious long distance runners will be invited to compete in a variety of cateâ€" Waterloo Days runners invasion Opera Company and CBC Television.
