The Waterloo Regional Rape â€" Distress _ Centre does not plan on closing . down, but after being turnâ€" ed down by the Federated Appeal and Canada Works the situation is becoming desperate. â€" Although _ staff _ memâ€" bers have agreed to work on a volunteer basis, the centre still needs to come up _ with _ approximately $42,000 to help cover opâ€" erating costs. The centre has sent apâ€" plications to a number of other foundations and is no longer asking the govâ€" ernment for assistance. To date it has received favourable replies from the â€" Atkinson _ Charitable Foundation, _ Sir â€" Joseph Flavelle â€" Foundation, _ J. P. Bickell Foundation and W.M. â€" Messecar Foundaâ€" tion. In each case the cenâ€" tre has requirements it must fulfill before it is given financial assistance. There is nothing on the horizon in terms of longâ€" term funding but a few events have been planned over the next two months. The Last Remake of Fesâ€" tive Gathering 1977 will be held at the University of Waterloo Theatre of the Arts on Sunday, Nov. 13.
