This shot gives a different perspective of the annual event; it was taken from the Conesâ€" toga College‘s float. estimated 200,000 people it might make an interestâ€" of popping almost everyâ€" _ â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€"â€" who lined the street. ing angle for a story and time I made any sudden S By Jim MacDonald You certainly get a difâ€" ferent perspective of a parâ€" ade when you are actually in it. I found that out on Thanksâ€" giving Monday when the annual Oktoberfést parade swept down King Street in Waterloo and Kitchener. Fortunately, the parade for once was bléssed with sunny skies resulting in equally sunny faces of the Instead of battling the crowds for position to view the event, participants have a ringside street. While you don‘t get to see all of the decorated _ and _ colourful floats, the bouncing clowns and the tuneful bands, it 1. rode the Conestoga Colâ€" lege float which was deckâ€" ed out in a Pilgrimâ€"type scenario with the men in knickers and tall hats and the womén in flowing dressâ€" es. I got involved at the invitation of a friend of mine who holds a position of grave responsibility ~at the College; we both thought doesn‘t really matter _ â€" you‘re having too much fun to care. it might make an interestâ€" ing angle for a story and pictures. . Indeed it did. We gatherâ€" ed in the cold and dark of early Monday morning where the final preparaâ€" tions to the float were beâ€" ing made â€" balloons were being attached; costumes adjusted; the table at the front of the float was deckâ€" ed out in a Thanksgiving style dinner. @Not everything was perâ€" fect. I had to don a pilgrim costume <which made me feel more like a Thanksâ€" giving turkey than Miles Standish. Besides, the waistâ€" coat was too small and a Conestoga Tencennial butâ€" ton I used to try to keep it together had a nasty habit And the band who also rode the float almost missed the show. The Horton Yaâ€" hoos finally showed up, their final group member hopping on the float just as the parade got underâ€" of popping almost everyâ€" time I made any sudden move. The crowds were thick in downtown Waterloo and grew even thicker on the streets of Kitchener. They were every where â€" on stands, sitting on the curb, standâ€" ing 10, 12, 20 deep, on roofâ€" way, and their bluegrass tunes certainly â€" warmed up the atmosphere. In fact, I‘m not sure who enjoyed their foot stompin‘ tunes more â€" the crowds or the people on the float. ‘ AIRPORTER SERVICE Now United Trails makes it easier than ever to get to and from Toronto International Airport â€" seven days a week.
