The Twin Cities® mayors, special guests and Oktoberfest personnel will gather around the Mayâ€" pole and officially tap the first keg of beer. The nine day festival has something for everyone. There are more than 40 family and sporting events ranging from the Thanksâ€" giving Day parade to art shows to a Musikfest. The â€" Festhalls located throughout ° the cities will be the busiest places by far. No one is a stranger for long as they join hands and raise their beer steins singâ€" ing *"Ein Prosit." Sauerâ€" kraut _ and _ Oktoberfest sausage is sure to satisly every appetite. Boisterous oomâ€"pahâ€"pah music, the aroma of sausage and a splash of beer, will officially hail the opening of Kitchâ€" enerâ€"Waterioo Oktoberfest ©77. The cereâ€" mony will take place at Speakers Cornâ€" er in Kitchener, on the stroke of noon, Friday, Oct. 7. The animated characters of Snow White and the seven dwarfs tell their story and their music can be heard in many areas downtown. A huge candyâ€"striped tent, located at the corner of Charles and Benton Streets, will entertain visitors with over 50 hours of music and entertainment. Schneidâ€" er Inc., will make the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest cooked sausageâ€"onâ€"aâ€"bun. * The two mayors, Mr. Oktoberfest and Frieda will join the awaiting dignitaries on stage at noon. Following introducâ€" tions, the giant sausage will be sampled by Jonas Bingeman in a ceremonial gesâ€" ture to insure its palatability for festival goers. Mayor Morley Rosenberg will read a proclamation to declare Oktoberfest ‘77 officially open, and the official beer keg will be tapped to finalize the openâ€" ing ceremonies at 12 :30 p.m. About 350,000 people are éxpected to take part in Kâ€"W Oktoberfest‘77 from October 7â€"15. from Waterloo, the tent is designed to provide fun for the whole family. It will be unlicensed «.and there will be no charge for the acts. The Downtown Kitchener board _ of _ management agreed to provideée $4,000 towards the cost of the acts and another $600 towards the cost of locating the tent, as part of its onâ€"going promotion program for the downtown core, which beâ€" gan in May. Activities kick off on Friday, October 7 with the Gemutlichkeit Express band, the music of country folk artist Doug Biggs and entertainment â€" from _ the Forest Heights Collegiate School Band.
