Deardra King is a Kitch- ener dancer and champion baton twirler. Her profes- sional baton twirling and dance engagements have taken her with the Canadian Armed Forces troupe Dance Plus Four is a four - member collective based in Kitchener-Water- loo, in which each member contributes as both chore- ographer and dancer. The four talented young dancers, Nancy Forbes, Deardra King, Gabby Miceli and Diana Theodores bring a wide variety of backgrounds and techniques to their work, producing an imagin- ative and diverse repertoire. Nancy Forbes of Kitch- ener has had extensive classical _ ballet training and is a graduate of the honours dance programme at UW. She has scripted and directed dance films and taught creative move- ment to primary school children. Dance is becoming in- creasingly popular with audiences in this area, In response to this expanding interest, a young, new dance company is launching its premiere major per- formance in mid-May at the Humanities Theatre. She has performed atnd taught in many areas including Bogota, Columbia; Mar- this Vineyard, U.S.A. Cambridge University, England and the Glasgow Performing Arts Institute in Scotland. She has re- viewed dance for various shows to many places in the world and right across Canada. She has appeared as guest artist throughout Ontario on television. in variety shows. fairs, bene- fits, etc. Deardra has cre- ated several new, dynamic and fart-moving jazz and musical comedy pieces. GabtrrMiceli was born in Budapest, Hungary and came to Canada in 1966. She completed her degree in dance at UW. Her ballet training has been with Jil- lian Officer, Lawrence Gradus, Eric Hurst and Lois Smith and her modern dance technique and compo- sition with Ruth Priddle. Judy Jarvis, Toronto Dance Theatre, Til Thiele and Maxine Sheets. She is currently teaching modern dance technique at the Uni- versity of Waterloo. Other guest artists appear- ing with Dance Plus Four on this occasion will be Dorian Joe Clark and Wendy Laakso. Curtain is 8 pm.
