Peters, requested that he be granted early retirement effective Aug. 1. 1978 for reasons of health. After expressing deep apâ€" preciation for his service and dedication, the board reluctantly agreed to his request. Dr. Peters said he will serve for the next academâ€" ic year before stepping down. A search committee will look for a successor. In accepting his present term as president when the umversity became a proâ€" vincial university in 1973 Dr. Peters indicated to the board â€" that his _ present term would be his last. He has been associated WLU president to retire Dr. Peters, a Canadian citizen, was born in 1920 in the Ukraine. He has a B.A. degree from Tabor College. Enrolment increased signiâ€" ficantly during his tenure, new programs were added and four buildings erected. He is presently deeply inâ€" volved in the planning for a new professional building. with the univecsity for 16 years, first as a member of the psychology departâ€" ment and for the last 10 years in â€" administration. He has always continued to teach at least one clasy a year. During his tenure the Lyâ€" theran university became a public institution, a diffiâ€" cult time of negotiation and transition in which Dr. Peters carried the major responsibility . from Kansas State Univer sity, a B.D. from Waterioo Lutheran _ Seminary, _ a Ph.D. from the Univerâ€" sity of Kansas and a"Th.D. from Central Baptist Semiâ€" nary, Kansas City. _ _ Before coming to Waterloo, he served Tabor College as president and later was dean of the Mennonite Brethâ€" ren College of Arts, Winniâ€" peg, then affiliated with WLU. The Kâ€"W Chamber Muâ€" sic Society‘s final concert of the current season will feature the Stratford Enâ€" semble in a programme strong in variety. Qf special interest is the debut of the ensemble‘s string quartet in works of Beethoven and Turina. Led by Irving IImer, the conâ€" certmaster who came to the ensemble last fall after many years of experience in the famous Fine Arts String Quartet and other imporâ€" tant chamber ensembles, the quartet will _ offer Beethoven‘s First String Quartet, and the lovely ‘*Lament for a Bullfighter® for quartet by Joaquin Tuâ€" rina.
