The program involves parents, screened by the police, who open their homes as a haven to children play- ing or walking in the area who get into some sort of trouble, are sick or lost. The kids identify the block parent home by a sign in the window. The first phase of the program is currently under way in five school areas in Waterloo. The Block Parents pro- gram has worked well in Kitchener and is now get- ting underway in Waterloo as well. There will also be a coun- tryside tour. This will be a two-and-a-half hour guided tour of points of interest in and around Elmira. The tour will visit the cover- ed bridge, a general store, a harness shop, blacksmith shop and a buggy and wagon shop. The bus will leave Buses from the mall Ieiii take visitors to one of four local sugar bushes open for tours. Wagons and tractors will take people into the bushes where maple sap is being collected, evaporate ed and processed into maple syrup. Cost of the tour will be adults 81.50 and children 50cents.
