Events included tugâ€"ofâ€"wars; crabâ€"walk soccer, running long jump and other track and field sports. & A unique event was a modified version of the caber toss, a Scottish Highland.Games sport where competitors throw a telephone pole as far as posâ€" sible.â€"The trick is to stand the pole on end so that it can fall forward to score twice its length plus the distance carried in the air. Lincoln Heights stuâ€" dents replaced the fullâ€"size cabers with proporâ€" Winston Churchill public school will hold an eveâ€" ning of cultural song and dance to open its Junior Olympic program at 7:30 p.m. June 2. The stuâ€" dents will present songs and dances from the counâ€" tries participating in the Olympics. According to principal Mary Johnston, the cultural night will _ help to widen the scope of the Junior Olympic proâ€" gram. More than 15 teachers and parents will coâ€" ordinate the athletic activities for Winston Churchâ€" ill June 9, 10, 11. The competitions will climax on Play Day, June 15. â€" n Junior Olympic events planned for Harold Wagâ€"â€" ner public school will begin June 11 and wind up : June 17. All competitors will receive competition certificates as well as ribbons. 35
