With a membership of 550 persons, the guild held its first meeting of the year Jan. 7 at the Adult Recreaâ€" tion Centre in Waterloo. Suzanne _ Westergaard, a Denmark occupational therâ€" apist who is working at the Kâ€"W Hospital for a year was the guest speaker at the meeting. She told members weavâ€" ing is used to help rehabiliâ€" tate people with muscular disabilities whether from injury or disease. Weights are placed on the loom to give the patient resistance and to make them use their muscles. Finger weaving is also helpful for patients to use their pinch muscles and helps their sense of touch in using different types of yarn and jute. A new slate of officers was accepted at the meetâ€" ing.
