Sept. 21. when the Canadian National Railway‘s last operating steam locomotive heads a modern excursion train through Southern Ontario. The all-day round-trip excursion between Niagara Falls and Guelph. via St. Catharines and Hamilton, is open to the public. The Canadian National's restored high-speed locomotive No. 6060, built 31 years ago in Montreal for main line passenger service. will provide the motive power. The locomotive will "pose" for pictures before and after the excursion, and passengers will be invited to take photographs or make sound recordings during special "run-pasts" at strategic. locations during the trip. Some of the coaches will have open windows for the convenience of amateur photographers who want to preserve the mstalgic trip on film, and the baggage car will beequipped with llo-volt electricity for passengels who want to make tape recordings of the surging, hissing sounds of the train and of the lonely wail of the steam whistle. The train also will include air-conditioned deluxe coaches and a snack bar. Passengers are invited to take picnic lunches, if they wish. The excursion is sponsored by the Buffalo Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, a non-profit historical and educational organization. The Grand River Valley Special' will leave the Niagara Falls CNR station at 9 am. Sept. 21. returning at 8:30 p.m. It will leave the St. Catharina; station at 9:35 a.m., and return at 815 p.m., and it will leave Hamilton at 10:30 3.111.. renaming at 6:Str pan.
