The Central Ontario Exhibition has _arranged an extensive sports program this year in an attempt to give the public a look at some of the area's top ath- letes as well as those prom- ising athletes of the future. A special sports area has been set aside for the com- petit/iens and demonstra- tionS. / Tonight at 7:00 pan. there will be a demonstration of fencing by local fencers un- der the direction of, Don Fraser. Also Wednesday there will be a number of track events running from 6:00 to 6:50 pm. and 8:15 to 8:50 p.m. on the Cen- tennial Stadium track. The events include the Men's 1500 metre, the We men's mile, 200 metre, 400 metre and Women's relay as well as the Masters 3000 for men over 46 years of age and an Atom girls 800 metre relay. Forler of the K-W Club is expected to be a standout in the 200 metre and 15 year old Jeanette Wood of Oakville will be one of the standouts in the 400metre, Thursday night at 7:30 in the sports area. Judo will be featured and two local products will be com- peting. Both Rainer Fisch- er, the Middleweight champion, and Wayne Erd- man. the Lightweight cham- plan. are members of the Canadian Judo team and are presently training in Montreal. They will com- pete against some other local judoists. Wrestling will take over the Sports area Friday night at 7:30 pm. and some of the wrestlers from Kitchener-Waterloo who will be competing in matches include Canadian champions Egon Beiler and Tim Wenzel and two Canadian Junior cham- pions, Mike Mavros and Gary Gardiner. The Cambridge Kips will put on an exciting demon- stration of Gymnastics Saturday afternoon and evening in the Sports area of the COE beginning at 4:00 and also at 7:00 p.m. They will have some 40-50 competitors including 15- year-old Patty Rope who was a member of Canadis National Gymnpstics team in 1974-75. which corp- peted in the World Cham- pionships in Varna. Bur. garia. and will attend the training camp for Canada's First Olympic team, in Ot- tawa this December. Thirteen-year-old Janice Whetham will also be at the COE. She represented the Cambridge Kips in the i974-75 Ontario Champion- ships and placed second in the All-Round Tyro event. Horseshoe Pitching will take over the spotlight at the sports area Monday afternoon. September lst with Men's, Ladies and Junior Competitions. Most of the voltiging per- formances were used for the entertainment of Royal- ty in Surope. throughout history. The balance, co- ordination and courage shown by the young per- formers is all due to timing and systematic training. The horse and rider must be able to work in har- mony and as one unit to make the picture complete.
