City council approved the request with the stipulation that the concert be held from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. The origiâ€" nal request was for the conâ€" cert to be held from 6 a.m. to midnight. Mayor Herb Epp said he agreed with a suggestion from Ken Pflug. the comâ€" munity â€" services director. that the hours of the concert Community services gets 2 new vehicles Mr. Beckett said a numâ€" ber of local firms. McDonâ€" alds Restaurants, Brunsâ€" wick Twin City Bowl and CHYM â€" Radio, have alâ€" ready contributed services and prizes for the camâ€" paign and he hoped many more local firms would conâ€" tribute for the auction to be held on Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. in Waterloo Square. Persons who buy an orange drink, at 15 cents each, will receive a coupon for one free order of French fries at a McDonald resâ€" taurant. Profits from the orange bowl sale will go into campaign funds. The city has approved the purchase of two new vehicles for its community service â€" department. _ One vehicle will cost $3.960 while the other will be $4.073. Bob Beckett, a coâ€"chairâ€" man along with Larry Koch for the campaign, said the activities planned for Aug. 8 to 10 are designed to raise more than $3,000 for the MD campaign. Ronald McDonald will be on hand for a performance on Aug. 9 at 2:30 F.m. and the company will be inâ€" stalling three orange bowl soft drink dispensers. The purchase was not all smooth as Ald. One of the major events is a 48â€"hour bowling maraâ€" thon. Mr. Suetta said that 20 youngsters have each gained sponsorship for this event which will run from Aug. 8 to Aug. 10. R.A. Worsnpop. in a letter to council, said the concert would feature from 30 to 40 local _ musicians. _ actors. dancers and artistsâ€"atâ€"large. The youngsters have 10 sponsors each at 5 cents per hour. If the youngâ€" sters last the full 48â€"hours then the MD campaign will receive $480. Mr. Suetta said that in addition to the marathon there would also be a bake sale and a percentage of the profits from the bowling company, such as conâ€" cessions and bowling game fees, would go to the campaign. . Mr. Beckett said that MD is a disease that deâ€" stroys the muscle cells in the body. Once the disease is discovered there is little hope for the victim. The disease does not have a known cure at this time but the results of its cripâ€" pling effects are well known. Mr. Beckett said a person who contracts MD will gradually grow weaker and weaker as the muscle cells are destroyed and become paralysed. Because the chest muscles become weak a patient canâ€" not cough up the mucus and thus he may die from the common cold.
