The Hespeler Simplicity‘s have won the Waterloo CHâ€" YM‘rs invitational fastball tournament and the first prize of $900 after they deâ€" feated the Burlington Anâ€" caster Provisioners 4â€"3 on Sunday. The games had been schedâ€" uled for June 15 but heavy rainfall caused the semiâ€" finals to be scheduled for June 22. Burlington was to meet the Toronto Lindal Homes and then Hespeler would play the winner of that series. Burlington moved into the finals by eliminating Lindal Homes 4â€"1 in a 10:30 a.m. semiâ€"final game and then came up with a 3â€"0 victory over Hespeler in a noon CHYM‘rs tourney battle. A stellar one)â€"/flit pitching performance by Bill Drenâ€" nan highlighted the Burâ€" lington triumph. and gave Hespeler its first loss after three earlier victories. Hespeler wins Tarpons final meet of season Because Burlington and Hespeler each had one loss Patty Thiel won a gold medal Saturday in the 8 and under girls division during the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Tarâ€" pons swim club‘s annual competition. In second place in this event was Jessica Henderâ€" son. About 60 club memâ€" bers took part in the event held at the Breithaupt Cenâ€" tre in Kitchener. In the 9 to 10 year old group Angela Yule won a gold, Susan Raines won a silver and Wendy Dippel won a bronze in the girls event while Douglas Theil Jr. won a gold, Paul Hess a silver and Stephen Hiebert a bronze in the boys event. Heide Thompson won the gold in the 11 to 12 year old class while Jennifer Graham won the silver and Marianne â€" Reinhart _ won the bronze. The OFL squad looked like they were going to live up to their preâ€"tournament favorites‘ status when they forged in front in the top of the sixth on a single by Hal Kemp, double by infielder Vern Agnew and sacrifice fly by Benallick. the bronze. Debbie Reinhart took top honors in the 13 to 14 age group followed by Valerie Dippel in second spot and Jenny Grant in third. Winning the boys event in this class was Tim Szozda while Bruce Gordon placed second and Tommy Ratz was third. Rena Klevering won the gold medal in the 15 and older class with Kathy Thompson winning the silâ€" ver for her second place finish and Marianne Schuett earning a bronze for third. Ian Thompson swam to a gold medal in the boys class followed by Rick Cockfield in second and Steve Ratz in third. This is the last meet for the Tarpons until activities resume in September. At that time the club will be looking for more swimming talent in the 5 to 20 year age group.
