For the past few years Waterloo residents have not been able to enjoy a major drum corps com- petition. That is all chang- ing as nine bands will be competing on June 14 in Seagrarh Stadium as part of the Waterloo Days fes- tivities. Included in the lineup of talent will be the first, second and third place win- ners in the 1974 Junior A class as well as the first, second and fourth place winners in the junior B divi- St. John's Girls Band from Brantford, 1974 natio- al champions, will meet their rivals from Quebec, the Chatelaines, who placed second last year, and the Shown hare are the Ventures All Girls Band from the Twin Citias‘that will be in competition on June " at Saagram Stadium as part of Waterloo Days. This drum corps finished third in the 1974 national competition behind first place St. John's Girls Band from Brantford and the second place finishers the Chatelaine: from Da Laval. Quebec; Computers in teaching will be speech topic Dr. John Hirschbuhl of the University of Akron will give a talk on computer assisted instruction at the University of Waterloo on June 12 at 1:30 p.m. The talk will be held in mom 2066 of the mathe- matics and computer build- ing. The junior B champions, the Peterborough Kres- cendos will also be meeting their rivals the Flying Dutchmen from the Twin Cities and the- Dutch Boy Cadets also from the K-W area. , currently investigating the use of computers in some innovative ways for teach- ing. On June 13 UW will. present its annual brief to the Ontario Council on Uni- versity Affairs at 1:30 p.m. in room 5158 of the mathe- matics and computer build- ing. The Dutchmen placed second in their division last fear while the Dutch Boys were fourth overall. The other band schemat- ed to perform but not com- peting is the Kiwanis Kava- liers from the Twin Cities. Last year this corps finish- ed in first spot in the C divi- sion with seven firsts, mo seconds and one third. Prior to the major come petition there will be a par- ade starting at William and King Streets at about 4:30 p.m. The Parade will head north along King Street and then along Central Street into Waterloo Park. Following the parade there will be a break in the band program until the competition opens at Sea- gram Stadium at 7: 15 pm. Tickets for this event are $2 for adults, $1.50 [mastu- dents and 50 cents for chil- dren. While this competition may be the first held in Waterloo in quite some time. it is not the last as a major national competition is scheduled for Waterloo in August.
