There are a lot of questions floating around in the murky depths of my mind, and occasionally one "oats to the sur- face. It is usually slapped down by someone any witch. or just given a good shot of Raid. and lies over on its side and. expires. But recently, the questions have been boiling up like bubbles in a thundermug. I felt I should share them with my long-suffering readers, and among the six of us, we might be able to come up with some answers. tBy the way, if you don't know what a thundermug is, ask your Mum. Your Dad would be too shy to explain. , . t N They are not éxactli burning questions. but they do create a small smoulder. from time to time. Why are so many men addicted to hairy appendages to their craniums these days? I can understand any chap grow- ing a beard to hide a weak chin. I can understand any young man trying to grow a beard. it's part of growing up. - But why atfthise A, Manchu moustskhes? They add noth- ing whatever to a face that has no character. and they de- tract from one that does. Um glad I'm not a girl. It must be revolting to kiss a young man and wind up with a mouthful of hair. . - V whim I got back to- England from prison camp. I had a beautiful handlebar job which had taken me nine months of Region study last attempt IFArcy Dutton, regional engineering commissioner. said last Tuesday that if studies being carried out along the Grand River in an attempt to find a long-range water supply for the Re- gion are not successful by the end of this year, the Re- gion will have to search elsewhere. Waterloo Region is involv- ed in a "last-ditch study" to find an adequate water supply for the next 10 years. "This is a last effort. If we can't prove it this time, then we'll have to go exter- nal ito a source outside the Region. probably one of the Great Lakes)." The study, which includes a proposal to use a natural infiltration system in a natural underground reser- voir along the Grand River at Woolner's Flats, could show that the Region could develop water supplies in this area with a IO-year lead time. The Kitchener - Waterloo Federated Appeal went over its 1974 campaign target of $812,000 on Tues- day. a week before the 1975 objective of possibly $1 million is expected to be set. Ross Marshall, executive director. said today total pledges have reached $814.- 971, Mr. Marshall said the committee likes to raise about five per cent above its objective to cover pled- ges not met. appeal tops goal M Collection of pledges. which to date amounts to $699.692. will end Feb. p, In l975. the directors ex- pected to, have a target of 3950000. but the tentative budgets submitted by the 29 member agencies and one affiliate total $1.066.000. Mr. Marshall said. This figure may be trim- med a bit at the budget meeting neat Wednesday. but Mr, Marshall feels the final figure may still be or come close to" million. 7 The kick-off date for the 1975 campaign IS March ll, L2C2Iri ms CARMEN (1915) MODEL c21-3os cm mmtKG om CLEARANCE SALE Ann REALLV SAVE Bil 1..ET,,j,a??,1,S?,,',?1e,t,,f,?"oh"l I We honor . . . It does- n't make them look more virile. it merely makes them look scruffy, and silly. They remind me of the guys who used to comb carefully across a completely naked pate eight strands of long hair from their sideburns. Why not face it, chaps?
