A total of 40 potters had exhibits in the annual Mayâ€"sale. The potters involved in the workshop are local residents. The Honourable James Auld, Minister of Colleges and Universities, said the increased budget includes $1â€" million for OQutreach Ontario, a new program to decentralize the cultural resources of the province, and $1 million for the conâ€" servation and preservation of buildings of historical or _ architectural _ imporâ€" tance. The Ministry‘s support of cultural activities will increase from $38,905,000 in 1973â€"74 to $51,411,900 in 1974â€"75. A 35 per cent increase in spending on cultural activâ€" ities in Ontario is proposed in the 1974â€"75 estimates of the Ministry of Colleges and Universities. Commenting â€" on other aspects of the budget for cultural activities, Mr. Auld said that grants to public libraries will increase by 13 per cent over last year, with $15,705,000 to be disâ€" The agencies involved are the Archives of Onâ€" tario, the Art Gallery of Onâ€" tario, the McMichael Caâ€" nadian Collection of Art, the Ontario Arts Council ‘and its associated cultural organizations, the Ontario Educational _ Communicaâ€" tions Authority, the Onâ€" tario Heritage Foundation, the Ontario Science Centre, the Royal Botanical Garâ€" dens and the Royal Ontario Museum . Through these programs, the resources of provincialâ€" ly supported cultural agencies will be made availâ€" able to communities at no cost. The resources could take the form of displays, demonstrations, workshops or administrative experâ€" tise. This money will be used in support of 177 museums, 35 more than last year. The Ontario Museum Asâ€" sociation will receive a grant of $60,000 for special projects such as a massive cataloguing program . 37 per cent increase over 1973â€"74 and a 105 per cent increase over a twoâ€"year period. _ The money will be distributed by the Arts Council to artists, writers, musicians, composers, film makers, and photogâ€" raphers, and will support such programs as Arts in Education, F rancoâ€"Onâ€" tributed among the provâ€" ince‘s 400 libraries, branchâ€" es, and service points. Of this amount, $200,000 is earmarked to strengthen the Frenchâ€"language collecâ€" tions of the libraries. The Ontario Arts Council, which supports activities in the creative and perâ€" forming arts will receive $7,000,000 _ in _ operating grants. When its new gallery extension opens in Septemâ€" ber. the Art Gallery will have four times the floor space of its former premâ€" ises. The increase in fundâ€" ing of 144 per cent reflects this vastly increased need. The Royal Ontario Museâ€" um will have its operating grants increased 14 per cent over last year to $5,714,000. _ In addition it will â€"receive $150,000 toâ€" wards its Exhibition of Archaeological Finds of the People‘s Republic of China, which will run Augâ€" ust 8 to November 16. The Council also supports art schools, dance groups, galleries, journals, orchesâ€" tras, and theatre â€"comâ€" panies. Established orâ€" ganizations such as the Naâ€" tional Ballet, the Stratford Festival, â€" the _ Canadian Opera Company, the Shaw Festival and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra also receive much of their operâ€" ating funds from the Onâ€" tario Arts Council.
