HISTORIC WATERLOO The house at 157 Albert Street has seen a lot of developments over the past 127 but has managed to still keep its‘ distance. â€" Built around 1846, the house now owned by Mr. Jefferson J. Hill is a white structure shaded by two large trees. ____ _ According to facts uncovered by Bob Rowell of Waterloo, the house to was the family homestead of the Good family. The 1881 Atlas shows Joel Good‘s house to be located on the East side of Albert Street, south of Columbia while, John Unger owned another house west of Alâ€" bert Street, near Central. The brick part at the rear was estimatâ€" ed by Mr. Rowell to be built around 1861 while the frame portion appears to have undergone extensive alterations, including a new roof structure, a bay window, an entrance porch, and eave and trim Mr. Rowell said, it was reasonable to assume then that the Good family homeâ€" stead is the hewed log house located near Columbia Street. The house was probâ€" ably built by Joseph Good as a twoâ€" story frame house. Still slightly secluded Around the time of the construction of the house, the Good family owned a conâ€" siderable amount of land in the area. In 1818 John Good, a farmer, bought 148 acres off of David Ellis and then further added 80 more acres to his possession in 1825. After having sold some of his land, 149 acres passed to Joel Good in 1863 who could possibly have been a son. This land extended on both sides of Albert Street from what is now University Avenue to Columbia Street. changes. Much of this dates from the 1890‘s. ses for youth and adults.
