At four years. the old houses were filled with dark comers that spoke of fa’ale witches and the tr were perfect for climbing. At fourteen. the houses had secret comers for Clubhouses and the trees made discreet shadows for stolen kisses, Today. at twenty-four years, the houses hold spe- cial memories to be enjoyed during snowy walks, Will there still be trees and magic houses for my kids when. Riepert on Euclid Street in Water- loo. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Pfaff. Her earliest recollections of the house goes back to the turn of the century. At this time Albert Street was a dirt road and there were very few houses in the approxi- mate area of the Pfaff house. It is believed George Pfaff built the house in 1859, shortly after arriving in Canada from Germany. He was a taylor, a trade which his wife shared and worked at with him in their brick structured home. The house at 112 Albert Street is being used as a residence now but it has seen its years of also housing a business, two to be exact. If it happened to be raining or ex- tremely cold when she was walking back to her Euclid Street home she used to stop at her grandmother's, because as she re- calls there weren't many buildings around from which she could receive shelter. "There used to be a vineyard," Mrs. Riepert said, "down towards where Erb Street is now.
