Of the approximately 123 years of the house‘s existence, 32 of them have been with the present owners. Dr. and Mrs. P.A. Voelker have occupied the house since 1941, using it as both an office and a home. The style of the house is classified as being mainly in Vernacular Classic, a type of architecture which puts the accent on being practical, not flowery in design. This type of building flourished from 1835 to 1890. The sharply steeped gables and Gothic winâ€" dows are still intact and most of the outside structure is the same with the exception of the removal of a Gothic window in the front gable to be replaced by a rectangular door. On the interior, there has been the knockâ€" ing out of walls, replacing floors and the adding of cupboards which are always lacking in older homes. The Voelker‘s have managed to keep the historic element of the house ever present by furnishing it in the style of its era.
