_ Eon f F ze _ t i me ¢ Â¥J This can be done by hard work and common sense; by cutting out waste, by using our school facilities to greater advantage, by building functional schools rather than showplaces, by sharing facilities rather than duplicating them. This is not an easy undertaking. It takes time and effort. Your trustee must be willing to spend a great deal of time _ investigating, _ studying and analyzing. She must also have the time to listen to the members of the community, whom she representsâ€"to seek their opinions and suggestions. I have the time. With the above objectives in mind, and with a genuine interâ€" est in the education of your children and mine, I offer myâ€" self as a candidate for the Waâ€" terloo County school board, and ask for your support. A trustee‘s duties should be : â€"To provide a school system for the children of Waterloo County so that they may acâ€" quire: a) The desire to learn The increasing cost of educaâ€" tion is becoming an unbearable burden to many of usâ€"particuâ€" larly to people with fixed inâ€" comes. They, more than anyone else, need representatives who will do everything possible to keep a tight rein on rising costs. We must initiate a longâ€"range deâ€"escalation of these costs right now, so that two, three, four or five years from now we are not completely inundated. By Doreen Thomas Education is everybody‘s busâ€" inessâ€"from students acquiring the knowledge and skills which will enable them to become proâ€" ductive members of society, to senior citizens who require a society of enlightened attitudes. Education is our investment in the future. But education has beâ€" come prohibitively expensive. It is obvious that a housewife does not have a division of inâ€" terest during business hours which can be effectively emâ€" ployed on behalf of the electorâ€" ate. â€"As a taxpayer the money alâ€" lotted to the board will be manâ€" aged in the most efficient way so that it will benefit all students to the greatest degree at the least cost to the taxpayer of Waterloo County. By Ann Marie Sehl First of all, a sincere "thank you"‘ for a splendid opportunity presented to the candidates as well as a service to the voters by inviting sketches, photos, etc., re the forthcoming election. It reflects a vital democratic apâ€" proach always evident in your editorials. That very point of democracy initially prompted me into the arena of politics in connection with our school system. â€"To provide a system that is committed to a continuing reâ€" evaluation of educational proâ€" grams and to trying promising new educational ideas. â€"A separate school system to provide a Christian atmosphere in which children can live and learn Christian attitudes and principles as they apply to all aspects of life. â€"To provide the opportunity, the encouragement and the asâ€" sistance to develop his own unique potential to each and every stuâ€" dent. ~ â€"To provide | students â€" that have a special problem special help to overcome these probâ€" lems. The introduction of amailgaâ€" mated boards has out of necesâ€" sity introduced experimentation. Experimental programming is necessary but often costly in time and money. One cannot help but observe that sometimes ‘‘the baby has been thrown out with the bath water.‘‘ To the taxâ€" payer, it usually expresses itâ€" self in dollars without sense. Every thinking man is highly conscious of budgets. Budgets (whether in the home, business or education) means working within the framework of X numâ€" ber of dollars.
