This letter is in reference to the article on Page 13, Section Two of the Kitchenerâ€"Waterloo Record, Saturday, Oct. _ 31, headed Dropouts Just Drop In For New Learning Program. _ Our first question on this arâ€" ticle comes from the words Conâ€" estoga College Waterloo Campus. Why is it insinuated that the peoâ€" ple attending this type of proâ€" gram are students of Conestoga College, when in effect, they are simply using the premises of the Adult Education Centre, Waterâ€" loo, as a dropâ€"in place if they happen to feel like trying their hand at a bit of karate; pottery, or pieâ€"baking for a few weeks? The article clearly states these courses can be changed once a month if the person attending so desires, and the fee for tuition is $15. T op brass beat drums Surely the excellent night classâ€" es in this area could more than cope with this type of teaching. We go on to read that "A van or a bus would be a big help in getâ€" ting these students around, and it is hoped that the public will, quote, ‘‘come through.‘‘ Why is it, we question, perfectly all right for grade school and high A new sound was featured at a University of Waterloo faculty club luncheon on the weekend when a group billed as the Razor‘s Edge took the stand. Players included the uniersity‘s president, B.C. Matthews:; its exâ€"president, J.G. Hagey, and other faculty members. . Among these were Carl Totzke, R.G. Dunkley, K.D. Fryer, John Nash, James McKegney and Roâ€" bert Jeans. The university‘s homecoming weekend began Oct. 30 with a conâ€" cert and pub night which had a larger than usual turnout of alumâ€" ni. The 1965 graduates were guests of President and Mrs. Matthews at an open house following Saturâ€" day‘s football game. The Homeâ€" coming dance took place in the Great Hall at the Student Village. The article goes on to sugâ€" gest that individuals or groups, wishing to sponsor these dropâ€"in students should contact the colâ€" lege, Waterloo campus. So now we ask, how about all the students attending _ Conestoga â€" College proper in Doon, and the many in number of them who are workâ€" ing and struggling so hard to pay their own way having workâ€" ed all summer, and still hold down partâ€"time and evening jobs at very lowâ€"paid hourly rates in an effort to buy their education. These students are working on courses of up to three years, not monthly courses which they can drop if they feel like it. No one yet seems to be pleading for help on their behalf. The Doon campus is miles from the beatâ€" en path, or regular bus route, yet such is the desire for learning, the students somehow get out there without donated "vans or buses." Surely if a person wanted to help a struggling student they would look to the type who has stuck it out in grade school and high school thus proving his serâ€" ious intent of obtaining the best i / % 0"'{‘%'6 ~ .-:» m > pars~ : 9 > feeag _ L4 â€"â€" C % ts \J "s;: < ) & "-.::::?:1::::::; / ugV E. Because we are the parents of a student attending the Doon campus who was once proud of the college name. This name should surely be used only be true, fullâ€"time, feeâ€"paying Conâ€" estoga College students and not by dropâ€"in learning programs$ and adult education centres. It seems that a growing minorâ€" ity is appealing to government sources for greater freedom in the nonâ€"medical use of soft and hard drugs. These advocates maintain that it is their democratic right to do whatsoever they wish with their lives. To me, this kind of request is completely irresponsible in that after these persons have destroyâ€" ed either their physical or mental health, they become wards of the state. Heaven knows that enough normal problems exist within health and welfare areas without asking the taxpayers to respond in a greater monetary measure toward building or enâ€" JOHN AND DORIS BROWN STEREO SHOP Great Exciting Days of fabulous, Preâ€"Christmas Values.
