_ Violins popular in separate schools | Beginner‘s courses have been designed so that orchestras may be started in three areas of the eounty within three years. Of 539 pupils enrolled in the new program, Waterloo North heads the list with 165. There are 113 in Galt, 96 in Kitchener, 88 in Waterloo and 77 in Presâ€" ton and Hespeler. "Musical talent is considerably higher in outside areas than in Kitchener and Waterloo," Berâ€" gauer told trustees Monday night. He said there wasn‘t one child in St. Clement‘s that didn‘t dis play musical talent. Every pupil in every grade at Bamberg‘s oneâ€" room school is learning to play some instrumentâ€"as well as the teacher who is studying violin. The instrumental music course, initiated by the county separate school board last year, is adminiâ€" stered by Bergauer and four partâ€" time instructors. It provides three months‘ instruction for any stuâ€" dent with musical aptitude, but instrument and instructor limiâ€" tatiens means each student will not necessarily get instruction in the instrument of his or her choice. * There are 126 percussion stuâ€" dents, 78 trumpeters, 25 cellists, and 22 trombonists. Ye There are 20 enrolled for viâ€" ola classes, 13 for bass viol, cight for clarinet, five for flute and ene lone student of French horn. Michael Bergauer, instrumenâ€" tal music coâ€"ordinator, told trusâ€" tees this week that 241 pupils in the county enrolled in beginners‘ violin programs last year. Seventyâ€"six trombones led The Musicman‘s parade with a big bass horn at the rear. But violins, all 241 of them, are out front in Waterlo® Counâ€" ty‘s separate school system and there‘s not a bass horn in sight. A driver who has to stam on his brakes to prevent an accident is probably not a pood driver. Experienced drivâ€" ers seldom have to take such drastic action. They not only drive with care, they keep a careful eye on other drivers. By watching the road ahead, you can recognize potential dangers, and eliminate the need for crash action.
