Turner, one of Canada‘s most respe¢ted social work professionâ€" als, returns to campus after takâ€" ing a year‘s leave of absence to assist Memorial University, Newâ€" foundland, establish an underâ€" graduate program in secial work. He succeeds Sheldon L. Rahn, who came from his New York position as head of thg social welâ€" fare gepartment of the National Council of Churches to assist in founding the new school, which last year was granted full accreâ€" ditation | by the International Council on Social Work Educaâ€" Rahn asked to be relieved of his heavy duties as administraâ€" tive head now that school is established so that he can devote himself to teaching and research within the school. He will also assume the new post of coâ€"ordinaâ€" tor. Dr. Francis J. Turner, the first faculty member of Waterloo Luâ€" theran University‘s graduate school of social work, founded in 1966, becomes dean of the school Aug. 15. He took an honor‘s degree in philosophy at the University of Western Onâ€" tario, London, then attended the Umiversity of Ottawa where he took both his bachelor‘s and masâ€" ter‘s degrees in social work. He is married and has three children. A native of Windsor, he has practiced with Catholic Children‘s Aid Societies in Windsor and Toâ€" ronto and was assistant director of the Catholic Social Welfare Bureau in Peterborough.
