Ronald Forrest, director of the new area planning board, said the new planning school underâ€" lines the importance of the area in the regional planning field. He predicted that the school "will soon become the leading planning school in Canada." Both directors said they will be able to employ students for summer research work. The department moves next week into a new arts building with facilities specially designed for geography and planning. Dr. Krueger said the emphaâ€" sis on regional planning and deâ€" velopment is an attempt to bridge the gap between tradiâ€" tional programs in town planning and resource management. W. E. Thomson, Kitchener planning director, said the new school "will be a real boon to our area and to the profession as a whole." "In areas of rapid growth, the distinction between urban and rural is disappearing," he said. ‘"‘There is a need for planners who can look at all the human and material resources of a regâ€" ion in making longâ€"range plans." He said the university has been working toward the new school by appointing geographers with specialties related to planâ€" ning.
