This is a sad situation when you figure the winter we have just gone through and how bad the urge to go fishing is with most of us. Right now, we would give our eye teeth and maybe even one molar for a crack at a good big speckled trout. is also little indication of an immediate breakup. Your We have said this before, but we‘ll say it again. Trout are very much like people in some respects. You will find the odd big fellow moving and ready to strike at the first of the season, but the best time to take really large trout is during the later part of July and all of August. Early mornâ€" ing and late evening are the best times, with evening beâ€" ing tops . . . if you can stand the mosquitoes. I am referring of course to waters that stay cold, not those so shallow they heat up and put the trout down except during the hours after dark. Speaking of after dark; both large brown trout and large speckled trout do a lot of heavy feeding during the night hours. If you find your catch is poor, try fishing them at night, although you first should acquaint yourself thor oughly with the waters you will fish. Big fish are old fish and like older people, they like to be comfortable before they do much moving around. Temperâ€" ature affects their appetites and their inclination to beâ€" come active. With this in mind, don‘t take all your holiâ€" days at the start of the fishâ€" ing season. Save some for the hot month of August and then go out and catch the big felâ€" lows. One bad factor in this beâ€" haviour is that the average game overseer is now tied so tightly with paper work that he has little opportunity to get out in the field and perform as his job would indicate. He is so busy riding herd on a swivel chair and a desk that he doesn‘t get the chance to do the same on a lot of idiots to whom the game laws are just something to be broken. If the trend to more and more paper work keeps up for sportsmen who are still young in years. There are also some young men who get out with rifles and shotguns who are complete idiots.
