FAGEK TKN Hunting & Fishing (Continued from Page 5) mixed im with the regular heavy loads. Having owned several of the | old time automatic shotguns, the barrel on which recoiled with the action every time a shot was fired, I found to my satisfection that the automatic action was where the similarity ended. This new gas operated job has none of the old "double mbuffle" action when fired. In fact the lack of reâ€" coil is so obvious, you wonder wheprs in heck it all went to. | While 1 have only fired a â€"ouple of boxes of shells to date, I expect to burn a lot more in this same gun. My average hits has not been anyâ€" ‘hing to brag about either, nossibly one duck out of every three shots fired, although I did clip three for three this past Saturday. This is definâ€" itely my fauk and not that of the gun. WRITING THE DEPARTâ€" M ENT OF LANDS AND forests release for the Huron district, R. W. Hummel says that ip rega@rd to the opening day shoot on Luther Marsh, that despite there being flou% a thousand hunters in the marsh only two were injured. One of these had a few peliets drivem under his skin and the other â€" was severally bitten when he tried to pick up a swimming muskrat thet he thought was a duck. 5" hunters were checked by game overseers. Their bag totalled 613 ducks, a little betâ€" ter than one courtesy went by the board and many ducks were scared aut of range by some of the dough brains who frequent the marsh opening day. Not conâ€" tent with shooting at ducks half a mile away, they also stood up in their boats, yelled back and forth, waved the arms and acted only as stupid NEW BOLDNESS THAT SHOWS usual in Luther marsh, THIS ORIGINAL DOCUMENT IS IN VERY POOR CONDITION «95 WAVEKLOO (Ontacto) 1957 Meteor WATERLOO as some of them can. Luther is an excellemt duck marsh, but its always good to see the cold weather come and remove some of these so callâ€" ed hunters. Then the place is fit for those whe know someâ€" thing of and appreciate the BOW AND ARROW HUNTâ€" ERS in Canada are to be given a season of their own o n Manitouwlin and Barrie Islands. Dates of the bow season are from Oct. 27th to Nov. 10th both detes inclusive. Congrat ulstions g;o Don Moser and his able Committee for the fime job they did in connection with the Fowl Shoot last Saturday. Everything was run off smoothly and efficientâ€" ly and the Fowl shot was a real succeess. It was a fine day for the shoot and there was good turnout of shooters with the competition being quite keen. Conrad Heldoman and WATERLOO ROD & GUN CUB NEWS Harty Strome maintained their usual sucesses by winning a good share of the fowl. News has now reached us about the fishing trip of Fred Brohman his party of fisherâ€" men. To amy the least. they sure bhad a few funny as well as unbelievable experiences, al admitted they had a wonderâ€" ful time, and that of course is the maie thing. Wilf Simpson of the (Wexstâ€" side Dairy) Simpseons was proâ€" claimed the champion fisherâ€" man as he landed a 11 tb pike. Emil Brauneissan caught the largest pickerel, which weighâ€" ed 10% lbs. Doug Schreiber caught three pike weighing 15 Ws, 13 lbs and 12 lbs reâ€" spectively. He also caught * pickerel weighing 4 lbs. Ted Neil who last year caught the big muskie, had to be content to catch a 8 lb. pickerel, which one has to admit is a very good fish in anyone‘s book _ Of course there is a story going about, that Teddy was trolâ€" ling for considerable time withâ€" PHONE. SH 3â€"1433 out even having a lure on his line. This to my mind is the true conservationist â€" attitude and for which Teddy should be commended. Doug Schoeiber on the other hand performed what should be called the hat trick in fishing, when he took a 12 Jb pike and a 4 lb pickerel on the same lure at the same time. . Now _ befors â€" anyone should commence to doubt this fantastic story I would like to point out that Doug has several witnesses to this remarkable feat. All one has to do is ask these very reliable witmesses and they will verify the story. The rest of the party, Bob Fellbaum, Camâ€" Shants, AL Pieffer and Fred Brohmaz alâ€" though they did not catch any record fish, did catch a couple of lake trout and a few more smaller pike. All agreed they had a wonderful trip. . In closing we would like to remind you that Friday night is still stag night at the Club house. There will be dart games as usual and we will also have a television set there for those who like to view the fights. DEEDS OF LJONS Rev. Newton Smith, padre of the Hamikton Lions Club, told the Waterloo Lions _thb that the deeds of the Lions clubs throughout the world fil a gap that social agencies and governments can‘t fill. He also said that behind the fun and fellowship of Lionism lies an ideal â€" that of helping "the other fellow who is in need of help." Among the many services that Lions Clubs perform the Padre listed helping blind merm set themselves up in business, aiding cerebral palsied and cripple children and building swimming pools as only a few of the many that would not normally be undertaken by other agencies. Rev. Mr. Smith urged Lions and all men to have a good s piritu al background. He broke his left arm two days ago and appeared with it in a sling.
