WELL THE BASS and lunge season opened last weekend and by the grins on faces of local Walitons, the fishing pected. One chap reports he caught his limit of bass so quick he had to return home with most of the food his wife had preâ€" This is the first year there has not been a size limit on bass. Supposedly the fislgerm&n '_a'flirlrkeei)- those he catches up to his limit in number . . and then quit. Theory is . . and it sounds reasonable . . . that too many of the little fish are returned to the water after nearly beâ€" ing turned inside out by efâ€" feorts of some person to exâ€" threat. There actually isn‘t any need for this because cutting off the hook will allow the fish to continue living. However, as many seem loath to part with a one cent hook, a number of small fish are most certainly killed by rough removal. While we have heard many opinions expressed on both sides of the fence, we personâ€" ally think the Department of Lands and Forests may have something in allowing each fish caught, to be kept and eounted in the legal take. It will probably take several years to fully ascertain whethâ€" er the present ruling is inâ€" creasing or actually injuring the quality and quantity of the species of fish affected. PHEASANTS ARE BEING released in various covers around Waterloo and motorists are asked to drive a little slower in the morning and evening hours when these birds are out along the roads picking up gravel. CROWS ARE BECOMING A LITTLE more susceptible to the call now their young are on the way. For the most part, the small crows are still unâ€" able to fly, but as soon as they are, that‘s time for you and your scattergun to take to the woands. There is a great deal of satâ€" isfaction in earning anything. There the been all they hook from their by Herb Smith Keeping the vermin population in‘: contrel means you have mote right to take your share 4s THE MILDMAY AREA being spoiled for trout fishing: by the stupidity of some jackâ€" ass that dumped rock bass inâ€" to the waters there? Several trout fishermen who frequent the area to some exâ€" tent claim it is. Evidently the ponds at Mildmay are now taamine with these usless but voracious fish. Trout most impossible to t now. What will it be another five years" THE FIRE SEASON 1S$ now upon us and all real sportsâ€" men are asked to guard against any possibililty, both on their and the part of others, of starting a forest fire that will wipe out valuable timber, game and fish. Its hard to conceive the stupidity of a person that will toss a lighted cigarette out of a car or drop it while travelâ€" ling through the bush, withâ€" out making sure it is out. Then there is the lazy joker who will not make sure his campfire is out before he leaves. Either he doesn‘t want to carry the water to douse it or he just doesn‘t care because he is leaving the bush. Travel permits will give fire rangers a much better check on those in_the bush and, the entire book, including cover should be thrown at those starting a forest fire, regardâ€" less of the reason.
