ONLY TWO MORE WEEKS until the long awaited trout season opens for another year. ~Some of the boys who have been putting off looking at their fishing tackle in the belief they had lots of time, are now tearing into it in a mad effort to be ready when the great morning dawns. Everyone seemes so busy these days we are inclined to wonder how they will manage to find enough time to go fishâ€" ing at all. However, we‘ll bet a lot of important money that they do find the time and even if they have to economize on cigarettes .. .the money.. All we‘re hoping for at preâ€" sent is that the ice is off Shooâ€" Fly lake and we won‘t have to try fly casting through the ice for the first time. If this should come to pass it should do King Whyte a lot of good. He‘s been threatening to let me try this stunt for several years 2 . . ijust so he could see how THERE SEEMES LITTLE doubt that Spring has actually returned to this country even if reluctantly. Ducks, geese, herons and other migrants are again makâ€" ing their appearance in some numbers, and the more comâ€" mon harbingers such as crows and robins have been with us for nearly a month. Pussy willows have now bloomed forth in their soft grey fur and most of the tree: ’e in bud. a For some reason kzown only to itself, the grass is taking its time about showing any growâ€" th. So far as my lawn is conâ€" cerned, this is perfectly alâ€" right with me. I never did like eutting grass during the fishâ€" nig season, although I perfer it to shovelling snow. Cl kh Spring in all its mystic beauty is one of the most fascinating times of the year. Better make a point of getting out every possible chance and let some of it rub off on you. PHIL RHYNAS of _ the Department of Lands and Forests is certainly an enthusâ€" fast so far as his job with that Department is concerned. We had a long talk with Phil one day last week and couldâ€" n‘t help but be impressed by his very evident liking for everything pertaining to conâ€" servation work in its hundreds of phases, mace oul. W EU CCCCmS One very interesting bit of information we gleaned from his conversation is the fact that he feels that field men (game overseers) are seldom to blame for the mistakes they make. That while the Departâ€" ment has made great strides over the past few years, there is still a hang over from the days when the overseers were told little and educated less as to what was going on in the department. Phile thinks that a game overseer should be tough but fair in his approach to those who break the game laws. There is always the possibility that a@a law is broken unwittâ€" ingly and that in a few cases, education _ rather than proâ€" secution might do more good THE SPORTSMEN SHOW starting this week in Kitchener sounds to us like an excellent idea.
