& ol Thursday, September 1, 19565 _ sy + TOWNSHIP AND COUNTY RESIDENTS will recall the vigorous campaign carried out by the Junior Farmers and Farmerettes prior to the Inâ€" ternational _ Plowing Match last year when they endeayâ€" oured to have rural mailboxes equipped with nameplate idenâ€" tification signs at the farm entrance. A similar idea is now being carried out in North Easthope township by their Junior organizations but they have gone one step further and with surplus money that they had on hand they purâ€" chased paint and are painting all the mailboxes white at no cost to the owner and they will furnish the name plates at cost price to those desiring them which they hope will mean every farmer in the township. These same ambiâ€" tious _ young people â€" were eamong the 37 juniors from Perth County who recently went on a two day trip to the mammoth centennial of farm mechanization on the campus of Michigan State College at East Lansing. In addition to seeing a dramatized pageant of a typical U.S. farming family of 10 years ago and a similar group living in this day and age of mechanization, they heard the winner of Future Farmers of America Oratoriâ€" eal Contest speaking on the work of the U.S. counterpart of the Canadian Junior Farmâ€" ers Organization. Taking part were Miss Dorothy Steadâ€" man, acrobatic and tap danâ€" eing; the Nickling Brothers, trampoline artists; Mr. Harolkd Bee, intricate balancing acts; ? and the Four Dutchmen, a 6 barber shop quartet from Kitâ€" chener. Those in charge of the arrangements were highly commended on the type of program which was arranged and it is generally felt that an annual affair of this nature will once more be well receivâ€" ed when presented. One piece of constructive criticism might be passed‘on to the effect that it, was felt by many that a platform with a background might have resulted in a more precise view of the various artists and aided the crowd in hearing the harmony of the vocal talent.
