The standâ€"out.favorite is the bareback mule that seems to cling to the foot by magic. Actually, it is almost magie the way designers have solved the problem of making this frivolâ€" ous fashion practical. The mule is kept on the foot in two ways â€" by the use of the springâ€"oâ€"lator in the insole or by the insertion of elastic on the inner edge of vamp strippings. Other shoe beauties with the almostâ€"bare look are the Tâ€" straps, halter backs, stripping sandals, banded shoes, and sandalized pumps. For those who prefer the closed toe and heel, decorated pumps â€" are â€" important for spring. Discreet touches of deâ€" corationâ€"single, jeweled ornaâ€" ments, nailheads, dainty bows. satin braidings, and stitching with a patterned effect all give a new look to spring pumps. _ For casual and at â€" home wear, ultra â€" sophisticated fun fashions are shown. Spring browns are the milky shades â€" Coffee Frost, Cafe Parfait, and Milk Chocolate. Pinks go from pale, pearlized tones to shock tones: a clear yellow is shown;‘and blues are available in a profusion of shades from Wedgewood, periâ€" winkle, to turquoise. Topping the 1955 spring fashion story is a new "airy" feeling in milliney. s The airy note is carried through in a lightness of apâ€" pearance, and texture, employâ€" ing the use of lace and sheer materiale «â€" chiffon ~and. orâ€" gandie â€"~of cutout, slits, and slivers to permit the coiffure to show as much as possible. The house is built on former farmland and is bordered on two sides by parks. We will be leaving Kitchener at the end of April, by the way, having sold our house two weeks ago. I have always found dogs to be wonderful com panions and expert entertainers. Even some ‘of the neighbourhood dogs provide me with considerablW amusement. In the next block lives a Chow dog of some« considerable age, I would guess. His mien is not one conducive to striking up a casual acquaintanc so I have never become familiar with him ... ba I have watched him from a distance quite aa bit. He goes for a walk every morning with sucl punctuality that you could set a clock by him. Ht covers exactly the same territory each day, no more no less, and I am sure he probably does it in exactly the same amount of time. He appears quite aloof and although I speah tohim each time I pass his house, (he always sits regally on the front porch surveying with contempt the passing public,) he gives absolutely no acknowâ€" ledgement of having beard me. Thus, as we entered the Christmas season, I was greatly amused one evening to see him sitting with the same haughty demeanor, on the porch which was decorated gaily with wreaths of everâ€" green and illuminated with bright lights. Elonked by these symbols of good fellowship and cheer, his grumpy and disdainful countenance made me chuckle aloud. Heard a cute story about a huge German shepâ€" herd dog owned by friends of ours. Seems the doz was always kept outside and thus was quite unuse to the house. When a relative came to keep house during the hospitalization of the dog‘s owner she allowed the dog to come inside. He followed her upstairs when she went up to make the beds but despite continued coaxing would not come back down. She finally realized that the dog, despite his size and bold reputation, was scared stiff of the stairs. Thinking he would get over his fear and come down eventually, she went about the household tasks on the ground floor. When he still hadn‘t come down by noon, she decided she‘d have to resort to physical means, perhaps lead him down by his collar. However the dog would have none of that and ran under a bed. The girl, who weighed around one hundred pounds, had to crawl under the bed, drag the police dog out, and actually carry him like a baby down the stairs. ... Wha ssys.allpolice. dogs are fierce? "*~ T know we onté H@d a German shepherd that was ‘"every man‘s dog" .... he wouldn‘t take after a burglar if his life depended on it, but mlda immediate friends with any stranger who entere the yard. In fact he made friends so easily that he was stolen .... not only a sentimental loss for us but & financial one as well since he was valued quite highly. I wouldn‘t mind getting a large dog but imaâ€" gine we‘ll settle for a mediumâ€"sized animal, a comâ€" bination house and outdoorsâ€"dog. I‘ve always had a special liking for Springer spaniels, having grown up with one, but any pup is appealing and I imagine we‘ll take what is available. One consolation a pup surely couldn‘t be any more difficult to train and discipline than our two young‘uns.‘ News and Views KITCHENER. ONT. FINE FURNITURE 4th Floor
