Once you have learned to float you can swim. The back stroke, the side stroke and the breast stroke all follow. Then it you want to really learn to swim get someone who knows how to teach you the "Crawl", the stroke of the expert swimmer. This is the stroke of the long distance, and fast swimmer, and requires the least effort once it is learned. The flrst requirement IS a‘ lack of fear of the water. This may be acquired by going bathing in shallow water. Sink below the surface and remain under as long as you can hold your breath. In a short time you will have learned not to tear going under. Then, and then only, try lying on your back, relax completely allowing your head to drop back into the water to where only your nose and a small part of your face is above the surface. If your feet start to sink, and they prob- ably will, they can be kept near the surface with a slow, steady kick such as you have seen swimmers use. The secret of learning to float is to relax com- pletely and any attempt to raise the head will force you under. All of this may sound ditthcuit, and may be at tirst, but after a little practice you will find that your body is actually quite buoy- ant and you can lie on the surface of calm water, your arms folded across your chest, with very little‘ effort. ttae-ri. by One Time KM by Automobile Accidents". -"ahrue Drown When Boat Cap mg /UongaideAhreh". - _ .
