The above scene was snapped by a Chronicle photographer as two local firemen "in training" were seen armed with mops and pails, strolling back to the fire hall after performing their "custodi@" duties. After many a "burping" council session the firemen won out in the end. Sporting a heading of "The Dignity of Being a Fireman in Waterloo", the photo caused considerâ€" able comment. LINWOOD BANK ROBBERYâ€"Early Monday afternoon, May 14, the Linwood branch of The Bank of Nova Scotia was robbed of nearly $3,000. Top photo shows Eric Warneford, manager of the bank, seated, who was scheduled to leave that day for a post near Ottawa. Standing is Berclay Bond, 19, Arnprior, teller. At right is Mr. Warneford‘s successor, Charles Brash. The three were bundled into the vault by the two armed men. In lower photo Mr. Bond illustrates how he was working in the teller‘s cage just before the holdup actually took place. A Linwood district man came in shortly after the robbery, unaware that the bank had been robbed, was told that he could not have his check cashed. FESTIVAL DAY WAS ALMOST ACCIDENTâ€"FREE â€" Waterloo police reported June 30, Band Festival weekâ€"end, was the "most accidentâ€"free" in many years.
