Miss Helen Snyder favoured with two Hawaiian guitar numbers and several selections were also sung by a ladies‘ trio composed of the Misses Dorothy, Ruth and Hilda Bean. The main feature of the program was a debate, "Resolved that being born poor develops character more than being born rich". The affirmaâ€" tive side was taken by Russel Sniâ€" der and Miss Mary E. Shantz while the negative was upheld by Gordon Shantz and Miss Mabel Cressgman. David Bergey gave the judges‘ deâ€" cision which was in favour of the affirmative side. Egerdee and Miss Glennis Musselman rendered a vocal duet. Mrs. E. T. Coleman gave a missionary reading and Mrs. S. S. Shantz conducted an inâ€" teresting questionnaire on "Who‘s Who on the Mission Field". An the conclusion of the meeting the memâ€" bers framed pictures of the various missionariog of the M.B.C. Church to be placed in the Sunday School rooms for further use. Tea was served by the hostess after the program. Annual Congregational Meeting The annual business meeting of the Bethel M.B.C. congregation was held at the church on Thursday evening prior to the convening of the Ontario annual conference of the Mennonite Brethren in Christ Church at Stouffville, Sept. 16th to 21st. Rev. S. S. Shantz, the pastor, presided and conducted a devoâ€" tional period in opening. _ Reports of the various departâ€" ments of the church were read with the financial report revealing that th esum of $4,634.00 was raised during the past conference year. Of this amount $860.00 was given to Foreign Missions and $844.00 to Home and City Missions. The report of the pastor, Rev. Civil Guards Meet _ The first meeting of the New Dundee Civil Guard was held at Alderside â€" Park on â€" Wednesday evening with a good attendance. Eighteen men have already signed up and it is expected more will do so in the near future. Major George G. Patterson of Galt, the officer in charge, was present at the meeting and addressed the Guards. The second meeting will be held at the park on Monday evening, Sept. 22, at 8.30 o‘clock.
