Says Pact Will Not Affect Dairy Prices states the pact will not adversely afâ€" fect domestic dairy pricés. " The department‘s views were exâ€" pressed by Woodbury Willoughby, senior economic analyist, before the recent annual convention of the Virâ€" vinia State Dairymen‘s Association. Many New York dairymen had exâ€" pressed fears duty reductions on cheese, milk and cream granted to Canada might push down prices of those products in the domestic marâ€" ket. Willoughby, however, declared these fears wore unfounded. "Experience under the first agree ment with Canada," he said, "makes it safe to say that the concessions in the new agreement (which became effective last month) will not materiâ€" ally affect the prices received by daiâ€" ry farmers for their milk even in the border _ states where competition from Canada is most feared." Willoughby said the concessions on cheddar cheese in the new agreeâ€" ment with Canada were the most imâ€" portant from the standpoint of the value of trade involved. Practically all of the cheese fmported from Canâ€" ada is of the cheddar type. Yet, he continued, "the simple fact is that imports always have been to small to have a substantial effect upon the price of cheddar cheese in this counâ€" try and there is every reason to beâ€" lieve this situation will continue. Other dairy concessionsâ€"cream and milkâ€"Willoughby dismissed as "oven less significant to dairy proâ€" ducers." "It must be obvious," he said citâ€" ing their relation ‘to total domestic production, "that they carmnot posâ€" sibly have an. adverse effect upon vyour interests. The trade agreoments program, Willoughby continued, seeks to find foreign ontlets for these other proâ€" ducers, thus enabling them to attain a greater degree of prosperity and thereby providing a broader domesâ€" tic market for dairymen. "When run down, keep a note of your pulse beat," says a doctor. But what is more necessary, the number of the car. J. C. McKay and Lorne Rennie â€" The Young People‘s Society of the Doon Presbyterian Church held their ’noothg Tuesday evening. Rev. W. Ptterson of Preston acted as chairâ€" man. .
