Quite a few from the vicinity attended the funeral of the late Mrs. Allan Schiedel, held in the Baptist Church, New Hamburg, on Monday afternoon, July 80th. Mr. Ed. Schiedel of Suuth-\{’est Wilmot On Sunday, July 29th, in the absence of the pastor, two young people from the Oxford Presbytery took charge of the service in Bethel United Church. Mr. Frank Parkâ€" house of Pluttsville gave the address on _ ‘"‘The Second Chanee". Miss Dolly Broad fo Springford rendered a solo at the conclusion of the serâ€" vice. Harvesting operations are in full swing. Fall wheat cutting is comâ€" pleted and by the end of the week a large percentage of the spring crop will be in stook. The wheat produced in this vicinity this year will cover very little more than seed requirements. Spring grains are short in straw but appear to be well filled. The big barns of Southâ€"West Wilmot will not be filled to overâ€" flowing this year. In fact it is difiâ€" cult to recall any year of the past forty years when there was such a shortage of hay and straw. A numâ€" ber of local farmers met to inspect Mr. Kerr‘s experimental plot of the new "Noâ€"Barb" barley and to hear speakers from the ‘O.A.C., Guelph, speak on crop production and the use of commercial fertilizers. This new barley, a hybrid originâ€" ating at the Guelph College, is a good yielder and free from the barbs which make the ordinary barley so objectionable to handle.
