Swept by one of the worst aleet storms in years, happened in this district on New Year‘s day, when hail, enow rain and Bleet damaged hydro and telephones poles and wires. The village and sucrounding district was without hydro power agnd telephone communication over the weekâ€"end. But the construction men are out on the job and are tryâ€" ing to get things back to normal. The hydro power is on again in the village and the telephone line is temporarily repaired but it will likeâ€" ly be several days before they are in good condition. | Mr. and Mrs. Frank Simons and con Roland of Brantford spent severâ€" al days last week at the home of Vr. and Mrs. Sam Bird. Personals and other items as told by Watericeo Chronicls NORTH WOOLWICH HAYBVILLE DISTRICT NEWS New Dundee and district were practically isolated after the disas trous ice storm which ushered in the New Year laet Thursday night. Thousands of dollars worth of damâ€" age las been done to‘the Bell and Rural Telephone lines, while the hydro system suffered less damage. Telephone and hydro service were completely cut off in the country for several days, and people again had a glimepe Of conditions that existed fifty years ago. The telephone conâ€" nections remained throughout the village: after the storm and bydro service was restored on Sunday afâ€" ternoon. It is estimated that the New Dundee and Petersburg disâ€" tricts _ were among _ the . places throughout Western Ontario that euffered the most damage. Enjoy Program. The Baptist Sunday School and choir presented their annual Christâ€" mas entertainment to a large and appreciative audience on Tuesday evening of last week. The first part ol the program was devoted to reciâ€" tations and exercises given by the children which was followed by the presentation of the cantata entitled, "The Manger Glory". Between muâ€" sical (‘&}x,mbers rendered by the choir, the Tistmas story was shown in pageant form with all characters in costume, beginning with the patriâ€" aichs of old, Abraham and Isaac, and the kings, who were anxiously awaitâ€" ing the coming of the promised Messiah. The story ended with the scenes of the Shepherds, the Wise Men. the Angels, Mary and the Manger. Reeve Elect Congratulated. J Mr. E. B. Hallman is receiving the congratulations of his many friends upon his election by acclamation to the reeveship of Wilmot township.
