The late Mr. Scheifele was born near this village and as a child moved to near Heidelberg with his parents. After his marriage here in later years he farmed near clifford for a few years after which he reâ€" turned to farming near Heldelberg. Twenty seven years ago he retired and moved to his late home in this village. ‘The departed, a victim of rheumatism was almost unable to leave his home for several years. Quickfall was seriously injured on Thursday evening on the EloraHarriston Highway, near Parâ€" ker, about fourteen miles north of Elmira, when his car struck an abutâ€" ’mm, Mr. and Mrs. Quickfall were returning to their home in Elmira, Miss C. McDonagh of the Elmira High School staff who had been enâ€" gaged by the local board before the completion of the last school term, but was unable to come owing lo severe iliness, has recovered sufficiâ€" ently to be able to assume her duâ€" ties on the staff, During Miss Mcâ€" Donagh‘s absence two teachers had been engaged to substitute for her, but these ladies received permanent appointments. Successful Field Day By Elmira High School. Wednesday afternoon was a galla day for the students of the Elmira High School. The annual Ficld Day was held and 150 contestants parâ€" ticipated. An unfortunate incident occurred when Howard Brent, while runnipg in the Senfor half mile race suffered an attack of appendicitis. He fell to the ground in pain. He was removed to his home and meâ€" dical assistance summoned. Brent. previous to the attagk won a first in the 100 yd. dash and second in the 220 yard dash. Freshmen Initiated. W. C. QUICKFALL PAINFULLY HURT A two story brick dwelling belongâ€" ing to Mr. John Stroh was disposed of on Wednesday by Auctioneer Geo. G. Class for the sum of $1,350.00 to Mr. August Geger, Elmira. Some few years ago, Mr. Stroh purchased this property fo $3,400.00 Fair Day Postponed. The regular monthly fair which was to be held On Monday, October 5th, has been postponed for a week and will be held on the following Monday, October 12th, Has Resumed Her Duties. The girl freshmen of the Elmira High School received their initiaâ€" tion ‘on ‘Tuesday afternoon. Miller, about 6 miles north of Elmira, was com pletely destroyed by fire on Thursâ€" day afternoon, caused it is thought, from sparks from a gasoline engine, operating a thresher. ‘The barn and entire contents including some imâ€" plements _ were â€" destroyed. _ The threshing machine was saved. Forâ€" tunately no live stock was in the barn at the time. The loss was partâ€" ly covered by insurance. It is esâ€" timated the loss would be between $7000 and $8000 dollars.
