At last Latchford, a lumber town, was reached, after covering 400 miles. Here the party put up for the night. The other two members of the party wended their way to the lown, returning at five o‘clock. From Latchford the party motorâ€" ed to Cobalt, Haileypury and on to New Liskeard where they had breakâ€" fast. It is interesting to note that Haileybury was completely burned out some years ago. At 1.15 in the afternoon _ Kirkland _ Lake _ was reached in time for dinner. Eggs were selling at 30 cents a dozen and the only restaurant asked 75 cents for a meal. The mining shafts go down 2700 feet in a zigzag fashion as it would be too hard on the cables to go straight down. The mine goes some 3 miles out at the bottom. At Latchford we met a Mr. McLellan, a lumber king, who bad five million feet of lumber on hand. The party slept at Brunk‘s hotel. Thursday morting we took « matar hoat trip on the lake which is forty miles Jong. Leaving l.mrh-‘ ford at 10.30 we arrived at Temagâ€" ami_ shortly before noon. Arrived at North Bay at 4.10 p.m. At Sturgeon Falls we saw the lumberâ€" men guide the logs through the dam down a specially constructed waterâ€" way. Leaving North Bay at 8.05 p.m., the party reached Trout Creek at 9.20 p.m. after havinge tire trouble on the way. Here the party spent the night at Casper Hummel‘s, his wife being formerly a Miss Con vad, cousin to Conrad Bros., Waterâ€" lo0. Priday morning the trin was continued. At Huntsville from the top of Mountain Park, 500 feet high, a good view of the country could he obtained. Some of the inhabitants of this district tell you deer are so plentiful in this district that they are known te jump over motor cars travelling on the road.
