Toronto, Oct. 24. â€"Good killers were scarce and sold at firm prices, while common butcher cattle moved slowly at slightly reduced levels, with the bulk unsold at the close of trading at the Union Stock Yards yesterday. The fresh receipt was light, for the second day in succes giou, but there were 1,800 left from yesterday included in the offering, and the stale cattle were mostly comâ€" mon killers. Fair to good stockers and feeders continued in demand at 5 to 6¢ per pound, with lightweights favored, and anything showing fair brecding and conformation was disâ€" posed of. Weighty steers sold from 6% to 7%c¢ per pound, with a few choice heavice making T%4c. ‘The odd choice handyweight butcher steer made a top of 7%%c¢ per pound, with the rest selling at a range of 4% to 7¢ and the bulk from 5% to 6%e¢ per pound. From 4 to 74c was the extreme range on heifers, and most ot the common butchers were includâ€" ed in a holdover or around 1,000 head. Good butcher cows sold steady at 4% to 5c¢, with a few kosher kil} ers from 54c to an extreme 5%¢ per pound, and canners were steady to a shade stronger than a week ago at 1%% to 2¢c. Bulls, selling at a range of 3 to 4%c¢ per pound, were barely steady at the top and firm at the boitom of the spread. An offering of less than two dozen baby beeves brought from 8‘!4 to 11%%c per pound, according to quality. > Veal Calves Steady The market for medium to choice veal calves was steady at the pre vious day‘s advance, recovering the eusiness displayed at Monday‘s close. Choice veals sold at 12%% to 13¢ per pound. with the odd prime at 13%ec and most of the medium veals at 10 to l1c per pound, with plain downâ€" ward to Tc. Grasa calves brought anywhere from 4 to 5%4c per pound, the bulk selling at the low of the spread.
