On Cattle Market Run Is Light In Consideration of Advance in Toronto, April 30. â€" Small buyers accounted for fair activity at the opening of trading at the Union Stock Yards yesterday. The run of 2900 cattle was approximately the same as the number received a week ago, and prices held steady with last week‘s advance. Packers were reluctant to pay top prices for anyâ€" thing except choice animals and were not interested in early transacâ€" tions. Stocks throughout the country are generally thought to be below norâ€" mal, and this was borne out yesterâ€" day when a larger run of cattle did not reach the market following the sharp advance in prices last week. Prices Are Steady. Heavyweight steers sold at from $10.50 to $11.25 per cwt., with 3 choice animals making the top of $11.75 per cwt. The buik of handyâ€" weight steers brought from $10.50 to $11 per cwt. with a few at $1125, and, nothing. below $9.50. Best qual ity heifers were cleared at from $10.50 to $11 per ewt. ‘The market for goodâ€"quality cows was stronger at from $8.50 to $9.25 per cwt., with some koshers selling up to $9.75 per ewt. Good butchers‘ bulls sold steady from $8 to $9 per ewt." and bolognas sold downward to $6.50 per cwt. Baby beeves were steady at from $10 to $13 per cwt. for the bulk of the offéring, with one animal weighâ€" ed out at $13.50. _ Store cattle trading was quiet andi no feeders were offered. Thirty thouszod tons of railway materialâ€"trucks and steel framing Tor bor carsâ€"will shortly leave Vancouver for the Orient, as equipâ€" ment for the Transâ€"Siberian Railâ€" way. _ The order for this material was placed thirteen years ago, but delivery was balted with the outâ€" break of the Russian Revolution, and the equipment held in the Canâ€" adian Pacific Rallway‘s yards at Coquitiam until conditions for deâ€" livery were more favorabie, ; One little pig went to market; and low and behold there were cight little pigs when the shipment arrived. It was a sow, and en route seven little pigs were born. Whether the shipper or the express company should pay the fares of the seven extra and unexpected pigs is a maiter that has not been Vancouver‘s growth since its inâ€" corporation in 1886 is revealed by the official estimate of the populaâ€" tion of the new city by the assessâ€" ment commission which places it at 228.198 for the city proper.
