HOMUTH RETURNED IN SOUTH WATERLGO Givem Majority of 3,346 Over Prohibition Candidate, Levi Master.â€"Government Control Versus O.T.A. the Issue. _ The riding of South Waterloo on Wednesday returned Karl K. Ho] muth, Laborâ€"Progressive member, by a majority of 3,346, the largest ever given a candidate in the history of the riding. Levi Master, the Prohi bitionist candidate, and his supâ€" porters worked hard, but fought an upâ€"hill battle against his opponent. The vote stood at 8,574 to 5,464. whose Government was again reâ€" turflod by an overewhelming maâ€" Jority. FATAL AUTO , ACCIDENT Mrs. Harry Soehner of Bridgeport met a traglc death on Saturday night about 8.30 @t the Lancaster St.â€" railway ag, Kitchener, the scene of a number ‘of fatal accidents. Mrs. Sochner was crushed to death beneath the autoffiobile which her husband was driving.. As she ~was endesvoring to from the open lmmntm’.;:uandnbw overturned bya freight train. .Mr. and Mrs., Sochner wore réturnâ€" ing to their homée dn Bridgeport in their small coupe after shopping in Kitchener.. At the preliminary sitâ€" ing of the inquest to inquire into the fatality, held by Coroner Dr. Honsâ€" berget, ‘it was. stated_that Soehner who was driving, did not see or hear anything until he féltâ€"the train come in contact with Bis auto. He imâ€" mediately called to his wife to jump but in doing so her dress unfortunâ€" ately caught on theâ€"car and before she could free herself the slowly moving Mt train upset the car, pinning her underneath. ‘The husâ€" band and son, in & miraculouns way, escaped. with only a few scratches. Mrs. Soehner, the unfortunate vicâ€" tim of the accident, who was unconâ€" scious when taken from underneath the car, was immediately taken .to the hospital but~she died shortly after being admitted. An examinaâ€" tion of her injuries showed that her head was a mass of cuts.and laceraâ€" tions, her skull was fractured, and every rib on her left side was broken, the chest being practically stayed in on the left side. . According to the coromer, Soehner claimed he did not hear any warnâ€" ing bell although other witnesses claim it was ringing. Evidently Soehner failed to hear it on account of the windows of his car being closed. The freight train struck the nqtoultmh‘cuhndmoronp- pears to have bei@ti ho light on the freight car. The jury empanelled viewed the rémains at Schreiter‘s Undertaking Parlors and then adjourned until Friday evening. Dr. Campbell perâ€" formed the autopsy. The jury comâ€" prised J. W.. Kirkland, foreman, Charles Fehrenbach, F. K. Ferguson, Ernie Sharp, Roger Gofton, Phares Eby and William Fischer. Weiche! on Wednesday was returned as member in the Onâ€" tario Legislature for North Waterloo by .an overwBelming . majority of 5.359, the largest majority ever: acâ€" corded a candidate in the history of the riding. While Mr. Weichel was conceded a large majority, his most ardent supporters hardlyâ€"expected it to go over 5,000. ‘The win was a popular one and his enthusiastic supporters© which‘ included large rumbers of Liberals lost no time in organizing a protession which wendâ€" ed its way from Kitchener to Waterâ€" loo and then on to Elmira. The successful candidate addressed large gatherings at the above places, thanking "his supporters for the splendid support given him. ‘ Fairly Heavy Vote The vote cast was & fairly heavy omb, 11,871 voters exereising their EMPHATIC ENDORSATION OF GOV‘T â€"CONTROL POLICY franchise "as compared with 16,764 votes cast in the last Dominion elecâ€" tion, when W. D. Euler poliedâ€"10,400 votes as against 6,364 for David Gross. _ â€" ‘The supporters of_both candidates worked hard from the time the polls opened at 8 o‘clock until the closing hour at seven o‘clock. The Indepenâ€" dent Liberal candidate, J. H. Schoâ€" field, made a good showing when it is considered that he was not well known in the riding. The election oI~Mr. Weichel by a large majority was conceded early in the evening as North Waterloo was generally believed to be strongly in favor of Government control of spirituous liquors as against the Ontario Temâ€" perance: Act. f g Weichel‘s vote . in Kitchener was 4,399 as compared to 1,139 for Schoâ€" field. The town of Waterloo accordâ€" ed the Conservative candidate a splendid majority of 1533 with a total vote of 2,138 as against 605. In Elmira the majority for Weichel for 246. ‘Waterloo ‘Township gave Weichel 64 majority and ‘Wellesley township, 376.
