Ottawa, Sept. 8. â€"The long«deferred division upog the question as to wheâ€" ther the Government was censurable in having availed itself of the Goverâ€" norâ€"Genveral‘s warraut« to pay salaries and discharge other current ooligations was taken toâ€"uight and the relative strength of the parties in the House was measured. ‘The Government was sustained in its action by a majority of 34, the vote being: For Foster‘s amendment, 69; against 103. Strange to say upon this the tirst division since the election, and upon a question claimed by the Opposition to be a paraâ€" mount importaunce, there were 32 memâ€" bers of the House paired, while six unpaired members failed to vote. The six were Messrs. Augers, Ethier, and Fiset, Liberale, and Messrs. McGillivâ€" ray, Pope aud Robinson, Conservatives. All but Mr. Ethier were absent. The member for Two Mountainse entered the House while the amendment was being read, but not having heard the whole question put was unable to figure in the division. Tae result, however, was not ultered by the failare to record theie half dozen votes, as they offset each other." All the independent mem bers, includivg Mr. John Ross Robertâ€" son, voted with the Government. In wddition to the majority recorded for the Government the voto of Mr.Speakâ€" er Edgar must be rcckoned with, for in the improbable event of & tie it would beavailable. There are two sgate vacant, Brandon and Saskétchewan, which will almost certainly return supporters of the Government. The division toâ€"night shows the Onterio vote to be as follows:â€"Government 48, Opposition 43; giving the Government # !'I_I‘Ajofi(«y in that province of five.
