The financial statements were placâ€" ed in the hands of the electors _ as they entered the room, and no quesâ€" tions were raised, not even as to the amount of the deficit. Town Clerk .J. C. Haight presided over _ the meeting, and the speakers were not limited as to time. The speakers did not abuse this privilege. The longest addesss did not _ exceed fifteen â€"minutes,, while the majority were much shorter. Fiftyâ€"two candiâ€" dates were nominated for the difierâ€" ent offices, but the election is _ likely to be an unusually quiet ong, _ most of the positions outside of the Counâ€" cil being filled by acclamation. There were â€" eight nominations for Mayor, and only one of those, Mr. _ J. R. Kaufnfan has as yet signified his inâ€" tention of standing. There will like lv â€" be a contest â€" for the reeveship ithere were three nominations, with [Mr. W. HI. Kutt, likely to go in by acclamation. _ There ‘were twentyâ€"one pominations for the office of Councilâ€" lor, three of these being meinbers of ll,his year‘s Council, and two of whom (have already withdrawn. > The Water and Light Commissiomers: were returned by acclamation. Mr. Kaufman said he had been reeve for 1913 and in that time he had done the hest he possibly could, although some â€" may have considered he . had made mistakes. _ In reference to the equalization of the County taxes, he heard that Waterloo may have got a little the worst of it, but he did, not think so. The County Council _ had made heavy expenditures in roads and new bridges, and with Berlin out, it necessarily increased the rates for the remaining niunicipalities.
